Artist's Description

My Dad, Henry Jeffries, served 22 years in the Royal Navy and during WW2 spent most of that time at sea on escort duty in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Arctic Oceans. As a result my first memory of him is in 1945, when I was six. He still had two years to serve and was posted to Admiral "Hooky" Walkers staff( who really had a hook in place of his arm) as his batman in the city of Hamburgh with the Occupation Forces and a relative life of ease after his exemplary war service. The large house in which the Admiral and his staff were billeted was a senior ex-Nazi's equipped with a large swimming pool, central heating and triple glazing while my Mum and us two children lived in a pre-fab built by the Yanks on the outskirts of bombed out Plymouth, but at least we had a fridge but nothing to put in it!

About Mike Jeffries

Mike Jeffries

COMMISSION A PAINTING FROM MIKE. It is with great regret that I have to inform you that Mike sadly passed away November 2020 aged 81, but I, (his partner) will keep his shop here going and am happy to reply to any emails you might send to his own email address at mike@transportartist.co.uk. Virtually nobody considered the humble lorry worthy of the subject of a painting until Mike made it so. Years of being at the sharp end of long distance HGV driving has given him an insight and knowledge into the industry that enables Mike to depict lorries as they really were in the past and not the idealized view of the less knowledgeable making him the man to paint an original of your favourite commercial vehicle. He is without a doubt THE lorry...
