If there is any better sight to the eyes of a lorry enthusiasts than an AEC eight-wheeler it is a trio of AEC Mammoth Major eight-wheelers and the venue for this line-up is the famous Maxs cafe on the old A3.
Nearest is a Mk III Mammoth Major of Silver Roadways, dating from about 1950, next in line is a pre-war Mk II of Hartshornes and finally a 1962 Mk V in the livery of Marshall Refractories.
These maximum weight lorries were the mainstay of long distance haulage long before the Motorway age and carried every type of commodity imaginable serving the multitude of industries that were once so much a part of Great Britain as well as distribution to the building trade and retail outlets nation
E-mail mike@transportartist .co.uk to commission your own unique work of art by one of Britains leading transport artists.
