Hello Mike, I had the opportunity to view your gallery and one of the most detailed galleries I have seen since being a member of FAA, the detail is suburb, composition, color, and it sure has your signature throughout your gallery, certainly a unforgettable impression, Applause, Applause, Applause, A very brilliant artist. Cheers Michael Hoard I have V/F this great piece of art.

Just to comment on the actual image, I especially like the green blend on the the metal front of the train, the shadows that fall across the lines, the steam at the wheels, the parcel wagon, and i actually remember the large brick posts, they were a black colour I suppose from all the smoke and maybe coal dust over the years. The draughtsmanship lends realism to the painting too all perspectives and angles seem perfect.

Just great! Although I wouldn't have recognised it by the trains and most railway stations look alike, but because of the detail and storied image I could see myself walking along the platform I often did most Saturdays when I went into town shopping or for a night out with friends and waving goodbye to relatives who left in the seventies for Australia and returned many times for visits. The outer station's building was beautiful and we heard many stories about the Royal parties that took place there. I think one was of one of the queen's birthdays, when she was a teenager. The smell of the station was distinctive and the noise of whistles, wheels, engines, the rush of feet, the newspaper stand or flower and fruit sellers before the machines took over. Thanks for sharing Mike. :))

I know what you mean, back in the fifties Birmingham still had the feeling of a Victorian city, as you say gritty.

Ex-LMS Jubilee 4-6-0 45670 Earl of Effingham waits impatiently at Liverpool, Lime Street station with an express for London, Euston sometime in the late 1950s. Ahead of the crew is an arduous climb through the tunnels and cuttings of the main line out of Liverpool but their steed is one of Staniers masterpieces of locomotive design and well up to the job.

I remember the graceful Jubilees well but only ever fired one once in my railway career and that was on a Bradford-Bournemouth express from Birmingham New Street to Bristol Temple Meads back in 1957 and we hit 90mph though Ashchurch happy days indeed!
The original painting was done about 15 years ago on a canvas 48″36″ in acrylic and cost the cl...

COMMISSION A PAINTING FROM MIKE. It is with great regret that I have to inform you that Mike sadly passed away November 2020 aged 81, but I, (his partner) will keep his shop here going and am happy to reply to any emails you might send to his own email address at mike@transportartist.co.uk. Virtually nobody considered the humble lorry worthy of the subject of a painting until Mike made it so. Years of being at the sharp end of long distance HGV driving has given him an insight and knowledge into the industry that enables Mike to depict lorries as they really were in the past and not the idealized view of the less knowledgeable making him the man to paint an original of your favourite commercial vehicle. He is without a doubt THE lorry...
