Before the opening of the M6 motorway there was a notorious climb just North of Kendal on the old A6 to Scotland which taxed many a lorry to the limit and here we see an AEC Mandator artic of Spiers Transport nearing Shap summit Northbound in typical weather conditions.
The original of this painting was in oils on a 20″�30″ board and is in the collection of Kelsey Publishing a group who publish a number of vehicle enthusiast�s magazines.

It is with great regret that I have to inform you that Mike sadly passed away November 2020 aged 81, but I, (his partner) will keep his shop here going and am happy to reply to any emails you might send to his own email address at mike@transportartist.co.uk. Virtually nobody considered the humble lorry worthy of the subject of a painting until Mike made it so. Years of being at the sharp end of long distance HGV driving has given him an insight and knowledge into the industry that enables Mike to depict lorries as they really were in the past and not the idealized view of the less knowledgeable making him the man to paint an original of your favourite commercial vehicle.
