Yes Luke, saw one in the flesh as it were a few weeks back on the road but without the trailer however there is at least one in preservation with the original trailer and it makes quite a sight worth seeing flat out at 22mph!

Never knew something like this existed. I looked it up on the web to get more information. Must have been quite a workhorse. Great painting! Fav/Vote

Artist's Description

A Scammell Pioneer Tank Transporter recovers a General Grant tank in the Western Desert in 1942. The recovery of of tanks from the battlefield was the responsibility of the both the RASC (Royal Army Service Corps) and the REME (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) and played an important role in the Army's, what would be called today, logistics.
The tank transporter variant of the Scammell Pioneer tractor was produced in relatively small numbers with only 574 being recorded as manufactured between 1938-45 but nevertheless were fondly regarded by their crews and even preferred by some to the more powerful Diamond T tractor unit of American manufacture available under Lend Lease to the British. Scammells were virtually indestructible and many Pioneers post-war continued to serve as fairground prime movers and in various capacities such as breakdown vehicles where a top speed of about 28mph wasn't a disadvantage.

COMMISSION A PAINTING FROM MIKE. It is with great regret that I have to inform you that Mike sadly passed away November 2020 aged 81, but I, (his partner) will keep his shop here going and am happy to reply to any emails you might send to his own email address at mike@transportartist.co.uk. Virtually nobody considered the humble lorry worthy of the subject of a painting until Mike made it so. Years of being at the sharp end of long distance HGV driving has given him an insight and knowledge into the industry that enables Mike to depict lorries as they really were in the past and not the idealized view of the less knowledgeable making him the man to paint an original of your favourite commercial vehicle. He is without a doubt THE lorry...
