Artist's Description
THIS PAINTING IS SOLD BUT YOU TOO CAN COMMISSION MIKE TO PAINT YOUR VERY OWN ORIGINAL OF YOUR FAVOURITE VEHICLE, A SOUND INVESTMENT FROM WHOM MANY REGARD AS BRITAIN'S LEADING TRANSPORT ARTIST. JUST E-MAIL mike@transportartist.co.uk
Originally in the ownership of Courage brewery this 1949 Leyland Octopus 22.0/1 spent most of its working life with Taunton Cider in whose livery we see it here at a bottling plant unloading its tasty cargo.
Though very plain and simple the cab is a classic and was a worthy rival to its main competitor AEC. The fact that more AECs of this era seem to be in preservation than Leylands makes it even more fortunate that this vehicle still survives very much in working order in the capable hands of the living legend Mr John Corah of Bovey Tracy who, incidentally owns the original painting.
A painting like this of your favourite vehicle, British or American, in oils on canvas or board would cost about 2000.

About Mike Jeffries
COMMISSION A PAINTING FROM MIKE. It is with great regret that I have to inform you that Mike sadly passed away November 2020 aged 81, but I, (his partner) will keep his shop here going and am happy to reply to any emails you might send to his own email address at mike@transportartist.co.uk. Virtually nobody considered the humble lorry worthy of the subject of a painting until Mike made it so. Years of being at the sharp end of long distance HGV driving has given him an insight and knowledge into the industry that enables Mike to depict lorries as they really were in the past and not the idealized view of the less knowledgeable making him the man to paint an original of your favourite commercial vehicle. He is without a doubt THE lorry...
